Mission

Our initial mission is to address the current fragmentation and segregation of Latinos by fomenting the National Pastoral Plan for the Hispanic Ministry (NPPHM).

Function

The missionary function is founded on the three primordial ministerial functions of the Catholic Church: the priestly, prophetic, and kingly functions.  The association works in conjunction with the diocesan and regional offices, and the Latino community, to strengthen the voice and unification of Hispanics.

Objectives

To offer a space with open doors that engages a wider conversation; where histories, experiences, joys, afflictions, and innovative ideas are shared; a welcoming and integrating environment that promotes an integral education, practices Christian social justice, and propagates solidarity.

To Promote an Integral Education

  • To make known the reality of Latinos in the United States through an historical, social, cultural, and religious approach

  • To analyze the Catholic Church’s response in relation to the great Hispanic presence, both historical and actual

  • To promote and develop responsible, conscious, and committed lay leaders

To Practice Christian Social Justice

  • To respond to our baptismal call in a social, cultural, and political context

  • To create a prophetic vision in accordance with the official Church doctrine and the NPPHM

  • To raise conscious awareness of Christian responsibility

  • To strive for a symbiotic integration that conveys solidarity

  • To communicate the injustices (e.g., discrimination, racism, intolerance, etc.) that exist both inside and outside the church, and both against and among Hispanics

To Propagate Solidarity

  • To diffuse a sense of unity in the Hispanic community

  • To promote a reflective action (praxis)

  • To complement the existing efforts of our parishes, dioceses, and regions

  • To offer pastoral and educative advice
